President’s Message

Happy New Year!

It is my great honor to serve as AIA Toledo’s Chapter President in 2026. As we are kicking off the 2026-2028 Strategic Plan this year, we welcome more members to be involved to enhance member’s engagement, to encourage the profession through programs, to ensure the organization’s financial stability, and to elevate design excellence.

With three new Board Members joining us this year, we are delighted to see that there have been more members who are interested in serving on our board than the available positions we could offer. However, our committees always need new dedicated members to help organize diverse programs. Together, the Board plays an instrumental role in advocating, advising, and coordinating with our members on initiatives and issues to strengthen our profession’s missions and services in shaping the built environment of our communities. Your continuous participation and support are essential for our sustainable growth in the future.

Looking forward, our 76th annual High School Design Competition has begun and will culminate with the awards ceremony in April. This program has always been our priority and plays a critical role in bringing students to the design profession, which often leads to the pursuit of architecture by many who participate. Thanks to the committee members as well as our design professionals and BGSU students who have volunteered as mentors to reach out and work with high school students. We will continue strengthening our collaboration with local high schools, and your timely contributions and support are always needed and appreciated.

Along with the development of our strategic initiatives in 2026, we will continue offering opportunities to distribute funds as a way to add value to our membership and support our members’ endeavors. Additionally, in recognition of the essential role that the local chapter plays in delivering AIA’s mission and member value, and in support of implementing AIA’s evolving strategic direction, AIA made an exceptional one-time investment in our chapter last month for this coming year. Our Executive Committee will continue working with members to set up comprehensive and diverse programs meaningful for both our local communities and professionals. Your passion and participation are fundamental for our programs.

We are grateful for the opportunities to collaborate with like-minded organizations like the Toledo Design Collective, The Arts Commission, TSPE, BGSU, the City of Toledo, and our sponsors, among others. We will continue to advocate for the architecture profession at the local, state, and national level and promote the value of architects. To achieve our goals, we sincerely need to hear from you. Your feedback, input, and active participation are essential for the development of our community. We appreciate each of your voices and suggestions and look forward to collaborating with our members for another successful new year!
