Making Opportunity Through Practice

Architect Jonas Gassmann, AIA, brings a fresh perspective on navigating the complexities of modern architectural practice. With experience working on commercial, residential, and public projects across the U.S. and abroad, Jonas now focuses on coastal waterfront projects that engage issues of resilient design and the spatial potential of infrastructural interventions in the urban fabric.

In this lecture, Jonas reflects on the challenges facing architects today, particularly the pressure to tackle broad societal issues like climate change and equity, all while navigating the profession's growing limitations. Drawing from his built work, he will highlight specific moments of creative problem-solving that showcase how architects can find opportunities for impact, even in a constrained field.

Jonas Gassmann is an architect working at BIA.studio in Boston, Massachusetts. Jonas graduated from Drury University in Springfield, MO with a Master of Architecture in 2017. Prior to joining BIA.studio in 2024 he completed a variety of commercial, high end residential and public projects throughout the United States and abroad while working at Trivers Architects in St. Louis, MO and E. Cobb Architects in Seattle, Washington.
