Emerging Professional of the Year: Lindsey Brusoe, AIA

In recognition of her commitment to the profession, the Toledo Chapter of the American Institute of Architects is pleased to announce that Lindsey Brusoe, AIA, has been named Emerging Professional of the Year for 2025.

An accomplished architect, educator, and mentor, Lindsey exemplifies the next generation of leadership within the architectural profession; bridging practice, pedagogy, and community impact across Northwest Ohio.

Lindsey is a Registered Architect in the State of Ohio and an Assistant Teaching Professor of Architecture at Bowling Green State University’s School of the Built Environment, where she teaches design studios and systems courses that explore the intersections of sustainability, theory, and technology. Her work emphasizes how architecture can foster belonging, environmental responsibility, and social care through thoughtful, context-driven design.

Before transitioning full time into academia, Lindsey worked extensively across higher education and professional practice. She served as a Space Planner within Bowling Green State University’s Campus Planning, Construction, and Operations Department, where she led projects focused on facilities optimization, classroom design, and long-term campus planning initiatives. Previously, she was a Project Architect and Project Manager at RCM Architects in Findlay, Ohio, overseeing commercial, educational, and institutional projects from concept through construction. Her earlier experience includes work with the University of Michigan’s Architecture, Engineering & Construction Department, as well as contributions to regional architecture firms, giving her a broad understanding of project delivery at multiple scales and contexts.

Lindsey’s leadership extends well beyond her professional and academic roles. As AIA Toledo Director and NCARB Licensing Advisor for BGSU, she advocates for pathways that support emerging architects through licensure, mentorship, and early-career development. Her mentorship has helped dozens of students successfully pursue internships, co-ops, graduate study, and professional registration, strengthening the pipeline of future architects throughout the region.

A proud University of Michigan alumna, Lindsey earned both her Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Master of Architecture from Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. She became a licensed architect in 2018 and continues to integrate professional expertise into her teaching, helping students connect conceptual design thinking with real-world project execution.

In addition to her work in academia and practice, Lindsey’s professional interests include sustainable and net-zero building strategies, adaptive reuse, and community-centered housing models. Her current interests and studio instruction at BGSU explore “companion typologies” in architecture—design frameworks that consider interdependence, ecology, and collective care within the built environment.

Through her collaborative approach, professional service, and dedication to education, Lindsey embodies the mission of the AIA: to advance the value of architecture in creating more equitable, resilient, and inspiring communities.

Lindsey Brusoe, AIA, will be honored as AIA Toledo’s 2025 Emerging Professional of the Year at the Chapter’s Annual Meeting & Honor Awards Celebration on December 11, 2025.
