Annual AIA Toledo 8th Grade “DESIGN A T-SHIRT” Competition
In the spirit of community outreach and engaging the future generation of Toledo Architects, AIA Toledo held its First Annual Design a T-Shirt Contest during our 2009 Celebration of Architecture Week. The contest was announced to area 8th Grade art classes. Their objective? Create a monochromatic design that represents their interpretation of the word: ARCHITECTURE. The 3 winning designs came from teacher Nancy Dyer’s art class at McCord Junior High School in Sylvania. The First Place Artist was Alyssa Kruger who received $100 as well as a Pizza party and T-shirts printed with her winning design for everyone in their Art Class! The Second Place Artist, Natasha Herzig, was awarded $75 and Third Place winner Alexis Bielski received $50.
AIA Toledo received a total of 36 submissions from 6 area middle schools. The winning designs were chosen by the AIA Toledo Executive Committee. In addition to the prizes listed above, all three winning designs were exhibited at the Toledo Lucas County Public Library Gallery from April 7, 2009 through April 14, 2009.
